Here's a little brag: I was selected by the Indiana Chapter of the American String Teachers Association as the Lifetime Achievement Award winner in 2025. I'm enjoying a fun career as an orchestra teacher, private lesson teacher, and composer of music for young strings.
But here’s what you really came here for—
I grew up the youngest of six in a Navy family, in Northern Virginia. I spent my childhood playing outside with the neighbor kids, pestering my cat and my siblings, and swimming at the pool. In 4th grade I started playing violin and writing articles for my school newsletter. While in high school I excelled in English, Latin, Orchestra, and athletics. I was planning on majoring in English, but life had something else in mind for me at that time. I ended up at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, majoring in music education with a concentration in viola. Following that, I earned a master’s degree in the same thing at Butler University in Indianapolis, and I had a wonderful career as a middle school orchestra director. Now that I’ve stepped off the podium, I’m assisting in a prominent orchestra program on the west side of Indianapolis, and collecting observations of teenage interactions to inform my story characters. Life is good.
